Student Stories – An unexpected friendship which motivated him to improve his Chinese
We want to share with all of you an inspiring story of our Student – let’s call him X.
X comes from a small but famous city of India. He used to study Chinese from us . A very cute student but at the same time very shy . He previously had learned Chinese but as the teachers were not native he was extremely shy to speak the language. Also many of his friends spoke better than him so his phobia grew more. Often Claire laoshi would teach him separately so that he becomes more comfortable in the classes.
Gradually he started opening up and became more and more pro active in the classes. During this time period he also met a girl from Taiwan . She stayed in India for a few months and their friendship grew. But our girl from Taiwan had to go back and the friends had to be separated.
But X really missed his friend so he decided to go visit her in Taiwan against all odds.
The meeting there was wonderful but once X returned he felt their worlds are very different. The future of them together seemed a little bleak to him.
But instead of being dejected X decided to do something about it. With this determination X started practicing his Chinese more and more. Initially X was learning the language rather casually so he could help out his father in his shop as they got customers from China which required just basic Chinese course, he wasn’t necessarily looking forward to making a career in the language. In his pursuit to improve Chinese X took admission in a University in China for a Chinese language course.
After one year X came to visit us and we were all stunned with his amazing Chinese language skills. Within a few years X changed from a being a shy teenager to an extremely responsible adult ! He also recently visited his Taiwanese friend both of them seem very happy ! In the future X plans to gather some capital by himself to start a business of his own in china as this way he can be closer to his friend ! All in all X is at a very content place now.
Looking at X’s determination, his journey to self improvement and his love for his friend we feel extremely touched.
A sudden unexpected friendship led him to become the person he is now – bless this friendship <3
